The Nautilus began its journey from a luxury sports watch by Gerald Genta to a recognisable Geneva icon. For the past decade, the Patek Philippe Nautilus is one of the world’s most desirable steel luxury sports watch and the release of this Nautilus Annual Calendar Moonphase kept up with the “Blue dial on stainless steel” trend.

“Why blue?” You asked.

Because blue is known to complement all skin tones and is appropriate for all occasions. And admit it, the gradient blue dial on this Nautilus just stands out amongst the rest, isn’t it? In fact, Nautilus models such as the Ref 5711 and Ref 5712 are largely responsible for the pervasive stainless steel body plus blue dial watch trend.

5276 vs 5711 and 5712

Following the classic three hands standard model, Ref 5711 in steel, the Ref 5712 (Moon Phase Power Reserve) offers more complexity with a power-reserve display, pointer date and moon-phase. However, the Ref 5276 (Annual Calendar Moon Phase) offers more features over the previous two mentioned.

The Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Moon Phases Ref. 5726/1A with its iconic horizontally embossed motif dial, features a gradient effect where the bright blue at the centre transits to black at the dial’s periphery. The watch’s annual calendar mechanism displays the day and month in two in-line windows at 12 o’clock and the date in a window at 6 o’clock. Above the date window sits a 24-hour day-night indicator encircling a moon-phase display that only requires correction once every 122 years. However, unlike a perpetual calendar, annual calendar timepieces require a date correction once per year, from Feb. 28 or 29 to March 1st.

Cased in stainless steel with contrasting satin-finished and polished surfaces, the ultra-thin Caliber 324 S QA LU 24H is visible through a sapphire display back. And of course, it comes with the iconic Nautilus integrated steel bracelet with a fold-over clasp.

Why should I get the 5726?

Patek Philippe is one of the few brands that show a consistent ability to maintain or even increase in value. Currently, the Patek Philippe Nautilus models are all trading at over its retail value in the secondary market and it is possible that it will continue to appreciate over time.

Steel may not be a precious metal as compared to gold and platinum but it is the most sought after material by watch collectors. Stainless steel’s durability and practicality make it a perfect metal for a watch to be worn daily. Furthermore, when the Nautilus case and bracelet look so exquisite, it doesn’t really matter if it’s stainless steel or gold.

If you are looking to only get one watch, the Nautilus Annual Calendar Moonphase could be it. This is a watch that you can wear with a suit and tie, dress it down with a polo, and even wear it with board shorts to the beach.

If you are a watch collector, I’m pretty sure you already have this beauty in your collection.

If you haven’t, fret not. Head down to the Watchlink boutique and you can proudly say that you are an owner of a Patek Philippe Nautilus Annual Calendar Moonphase.
